A friend of mine, always had a strong desire to succeed. However, past bullying had chipped away at her self-esteem, making motivation a constant struggle. Instead of hitting the books, she'd find herself lost in social media or glued to the TV, especially as exams loomed closer. She was caught in a tug-of-war between wanting to prove her doubters wrong and fearing they might be right about her worthlessness.
